Employees know exactly ... what KGM products can do

Quality grade G10: Steel balls for gearboxes

“Steel balls of grade G10, similar to those installed in transmissions from the tractor to the luxury car”, these are Mario Möller’s favourite balls. The 23-year old bases his choice particularly on the high value of this ball. “There is hardly anything better in terms of quality – only G3 and G5 are even finer.” The G10-ball made of chrome steel is used quite frequently and regularly lands on his test bench. Enthusiastically Möller also talks of other balls that are special for him: the trained industrial mechanic at KGM for example thinks ceramic balls for hip joints are impressive.

“But Möller only developed a real connection to the ball through his intensive work with the product itself. In the materials laboratory, he ultimately handles everything that can be measured: residual dirt analysis, microstructure analysis, micro-sections – and he is responsible for complaints. For example, during the manufacturing process, his favourite ball is repeatedly

given the acid test:

Examination of size and shape, two-ball-break-load-test, visual inspection by microscope and surface inspection.

What for him really makes the fascination for balls is the development work at KGM. He was involved, for example, in the multi-year development of a switch ball for the cooling circuit of electric vehicles and is looking forward to more exciting ball-projects, which he can breathe life into with his expertise.
